The Design Film Festival was part of a collaborative programme between HEAD-Genève, Parsons The New School and Kingston School of Art, led by Alexandra Midal, Ulrich Lehmann and Jana Scholze. The online festival consisted of a platform that is jointly hosted by the Design Museum and the Institut Français du Royaume-Uni starting on 11 September 2020. We were also grateful for the support from the Embassy of Switzerland. The Design Film Festival was intended for creative practitioners across art and design practice, who are interested in storytelling, conceptual thinking, visual and material studies.

The public programme for the Design Film Festival was a series of events which expands on the narratives between design and film, making the designers’ voices come alive. We understood this relationship as multi-faceted, where film lends itself to giving design and art objects a voice. The Design Film Festival was delighted to present an array of internationally renowned curators, educators, designers, artists, academics, filmmakers and sound artists to our events programme.
The events programme included contributions from sound designer Yuri Suzuki, former Design Museum director Deyan Sudjic, award winning designer and filmmaker Marloes ten Bhömer, and multi-disciplinary artist Inês Neto dos Santos, to name just a few. The festival’s event programme offered a myriad of expert perspectives on the rich relations between design and film.
